COVID-19, pt. 1:
Here’s some of the information I’ve seen as of March 11th, 2020. If there’s more you want me to include in a second post, let me know.
For Boston area families: “As schools close, more families will depend on food banks to make up for the meals their kids won’t be getting during the day. It’s a good time to donate to a food bank.”
The mayor of Cambridge, MA: “If you or someone you know is unable to find housing because of your college or university's policies surrounding COVID-19, please contact my office at 617-448-1525 or DM me.”
John Hopkins has launched a ‘Coronavirus Resource Center.’
For educators: a thread on online teaching.
If you want to get a sense of some of the current estimates and numbers being floated around, you can either look at this thread (which — at the local level — seems somewhat echoed here) or look at this news report.
If you have friends in China, Italy, Netherlands, or some of the Scandinavian countries (where the rate at which folks are getting COVID is moving at a much faster clip than the rate at which it hit other countries), you should check in with them.
Am I wrong to think that this kind of response — assuming tourism doesn't return until maybe the fall — will require a Marshall Plan-like response from other countries? (To say nothing of personal solidarity?)
“Current Yale students: alumni are getting together, including setting up a Google Doc, to share housing, assistance, $ — for students with nowhere to go. DM @therealtimothy for more.” /// The Harvard version = here // If you’re a student woman of color in Columbus, Ohio in need of housing, check with Zora’s house.
